Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cream the butters and sugars in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla, then beat until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into three portions and dye each with food coloring.
  6. Roll each colored dough into a rectangle and layer them on top of each other.
  7. Chill the rolled dough in plastic wrap for at least 1 hour.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chilled dough into rounds and place on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool on a wire rack and decorate with sprinkles if desired.
