- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Cream the butters and sugars in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla, then beat until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into three portions and dye each with food coloring.
- Roll each colored dough into a rectangle and layer them on top of each other.
- Chill the rolled dough in plastic wrap for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chilled dough into rounds and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool on a wire rack and decorate with sprinkles if desired.
