Description

This Hawaiian Roll French Toast is the ultimate easy brunch recipe — soft, buttery, and lightly sweet, with golden tops and a custardy center. Made with fluffy Hawaiian rolls, a simple vanilla-cinnamon custard, and a drizzle of maple syrup, it’s a cozy, crowd-pleasing dish perfect for weekends or holidays.

Ingredients

Scale

1 package (12 rolls) Hawaiian Sweet Rolls – soft, sweet, and perfect for soaking up custard

4 large eggs – for a rich, custardy texture

1 cup whole milk – adds creaminess and moisture

½ cup heavy cream – for that indulgent, bakery-style finish

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract – adds warmth and flavor depth

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon – brings that classic French toast spice

2 tablespoons brown sugar – adds caramel sweetness and color

3 tablespoons salted butter, melted – for richness and golden edges

Maple syrup, for serving

Powdered sugar, for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.

  • Place the Hawaiian rolls (still connected) into the prepared dish.

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar until smooth.

  • Pour the custard evenly over the rolls, pressing gently to help them absorb the mixture. Let sit 10–15 minutes.

  • Drizzle the melted butter over the top.

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden and puffed.

  • Let cool 5 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup before serving.

Notes

Make Ahead: Assemble the night before, refrigerate covered, and bake in the morning (add 5 minutes to bake time).

Flavor Swaps: Try coconut milk for a tropical twist or add blueberries for a fruity version.

Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container up to 3 days; reheat in the oven or air fryer.

Freezer Option: Freeze after baking for up to 1 month; reheat at 325°F until warm.
