Description

A comforting and delicious sandwich featuring melted Irish cheddar cheese, crispy bread, and optional flavorful fillings.

Ingredients

Thick slices of sourdough or Irish brown bread (or white bread)

Irish cheddar cheese, grated (or sharp English cheddar)

Good quality unsalted butter

Optional fillings: sliced tomatoes, caramelized onions, cooked bacon

Salt and cracked black pepper to taste

Fresh herbs (optional, such as thyme or oregano)

Instructions

  1. Choose your bread and slice it if necessary.
  2. Generously butter one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Assemble the sandwich with the buttered side down, adding grated cheese and any optional fillings, then top with another slice, buttered side up.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the sandwich in the skillet.
  5. Cook for 2-3 minutes until golden, then flip and press down gently.
  6. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the bread is crisp.
  7. Remove from skillet, let cool for a minute, then cut in half and serve immediately.

Notes

Pair with salad or tomato soup for a complete meal. Avoid using overly thin bread and always butter for the best flavor.
